Many people think fantasize about being their own boss. They hate their current boss and think they could do a much better job than them. If you’re considering making the leap into entrepreneurship, read on.
The Ugly Side of Entrepreneurship
The lows are low
When things go bad, they can get really bad. There is extreme volatility in the early days of a startup. It’s not all sunshine and roses!
Low success percentage
90% of startups fail. Success is rare.
High-stress environment
As an entrepreneur, your to-do list is often dozens of items long. This can make for a stressful environment. The good news is that dealing with stress is a skill that can be developed.
Extreme accountability
You are directly responsible for the success of your company. If you fail, your company fails. If you perform well, your company is in great shape.
Inconsistent income
You don’t get a paycheck every two weeks like a normal job. In fact, you might make no money at all during the first 6 months, full year, or longer.
What I Love About Entrepreneurship
Fast-paced and exciting
I love this aspect of startups. There are no boring days. You probably won’t get this level of excitement in a corporate job where the systems and procedures have been around for 50+ years.
Unlimited earning potential
Average annual salary increase for a US employee is 2-3%. Sure you might get a promotion, and your earning might increase 10%. In entrepreneurship, your earning potential is truly unlimited. You could build a tremendous business and make millions per year. There is no limit.
Freedom and flexibility
If you’re your own boss, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. I go to the gym every day from 8-10am. I can golf anytime I want. This freedom is incredibly valuable to me.
Ability to build passive income
Personally, I haven’t reached this point yet, but I’m constantly implementing systems, automations, and making key hires to remove my day-to-day involvement.
Best vehicle for personal growth
There is no better way to grow as a person than by launching a company. You’ll develop a fantastic skillset.
Is entrepreneurship right for you? The only way to find out is to give it a shot!
