Free SOC 2 Compliance Checklist from Vanta

Are you building a business? Achieving SOC 2 compliance can help you win bigger deals, enter new markets, and deepen trust with your customers — but it can also cost you real time and money.

Vanta automates up to 90% of the work for SOC 2 (along with other in-demand frameworks like ISO 27001, HIPAA, and GDPR), getting you audit-ready in weeks instead of months and saving you up to 85% of associated costs.

Many people have the dream of starting their own business. They’re sick of their boss, not earning enough money, not having enough flexibility, etc.

Is entrepreneurship the right lifestyle for you?

For me, starting Greenbox Storage was the best decision I’ve ever made. It has allowed me to become a digital nomad, roaming around the country, exploring new places, all while running my business remotely.

Let’s get into the pros and cons.

Cons of Entrepreneurship

  1. Financial Risk: Starting and running a business involves financial risk. There's a chance of losing your initial investment and incurring debt if the business doesn't succeed.

  2. Uncertainty and Instability: The business world can be unpredictable. Market conditions, competition, and economic factors can all impact a business’ success.

  3. Long Hours and Stress: Right now is the busy season for Greenbox Storage. There has been a lot chaos. For a month straight, it’s been nothing short of 12 hour days and fire extinguishing. The stress of managing a business can take a toll on mental and physical health.

  4. Initial Investment: Starting a business sometimes requires a significant upfront investment of time and money. It can also take time to break even and start turning a profit.

Pros of Entrepreneurship

  1. Independence and Autonomy: Entrepreneurs have the freedom to make their own decisions and control the direction of their business. They are not bound by the rules and regulations of a traditional job.

  2. Financial Potential: Successful entrepreneurs can earn significant profits. You may earn a 5% raise each year at a W-2 job, but in business, you have much greater earning potential. Greenbox Storage’s revenue has been growing 100% YoY since inception.

  3. Personal Growth: Running a business is a tremendous opportunity for personal growth and development. It fosters problem solving, time management, leadership, and communication skills. Entrepreneurship can be a vehicle to become your best self.

  4. Flexibility: Entrepreneurs can often set their own work schedules. There is no rigid 9-5. You can workout whenever you want, go to the movies at any time, take a nap whenever you feel like it, etc. In Greenbox Storage’s slow season, I have the freedom to take vacations, golf every day, and do pretty much anything I want. I take full advantage.

There are certainly more pros and cons to entrepreneurship, but for the sake of brevity, I will end this newsletter release here.
