The Tools I Use to Run My $500,000 Company

I run my company 100% remotely.

With 38 employees and $500,000 in revenue, this is no simple task.

Here's how we manage it all.

For a little background, my company is called Greenbox Storage.

We provide a pickup and delivery summer storage service for college students.

We pick up their items in the spring, store their items over summer break, then drop-off their items when the get back to campus for the fall semester.

It’s a unique business model.

Our business relies on college student interns.

We hire a Business Development Intern and Marketing Intern at each college campus / branch of Greenbox Storage we launch.

The interns receive:

  • Resume boost

  • Business experience

  • Solid paycheck (anywhere from $20-45 / hour)

By hiring more interns, we expand our company.

But how do we manage everything?

Check this out.

We use a platform called Connecteam to manage our on-campus employees.

It allows us to:

  • Track employee work hours

  • Receive "End of Shift" forms from employees

  • Share training material (videos and quizzes)

  • Create branch group chats

  • Organize employment documents

And A LOT more. It's really nice.

We also track the weekly performance of each branch.

Based on their weekly performance, we provide them a bonus.

This information is submitted via End of Shift forms on Connecteam.

But we also have six full-time employees.

Here's how I manage them:

  • Connecteam (for hour logging, shift forms, etc.)

  • Slack (for consistent communication)

  • Vonage (for texts and phone calls)

  • Zoom

  • Breezy HR (recruiting)

In this day and age, it's extremely realistic to run a business 100% remotely.

There are tons of tools out there, but these ones work for me and my company!

Cheers,

Collin Rutherford
