In June 2023, I began posting daily on Twitter and LinkedIn.
(I will call it “Twitter” forever).
As of this writing, I have 9,482 Twitter followers and 2,140 LinkedIn followers.
People often ask me why I spend so much time and energy building my online brand.
Three main reasons:
1. Networking
I’ve connected with dozens of amazing people on social media, primarily business owners.
Together, we:
Support each other
Bounce ideas off each other
Provide each other referrals / business
Connecting with like-minded people is the most powerful aspect of social media.
2. Distribution
I don’t have anything significant to sell right now.
But when I do, I’ll have tens of thousands of followers (who have read my content for years) that may purchase.
A great offer is irrelevant without distribution.

3. Increase your “Luck Surface Area”
I love the concept of Luck Surface Area.
Put yourself in the position to get lucky, and luck will strike.
Example: I was just invited to an M&A event at the Harvard Club in NYC.
Though LinkedIn, I met the founder of the company that runs the event. He gave me two passes for free.
“250 leading CEOs will be attending along with scores of PE and Investment professionals.”
If I wasn’t networking and building on social media, I would never have been invited.
Put yourself in positions to get lucky, luck will strike.
So if you’re considering building your online brand, I promise it’s worth it.
