Back in 2019, I started Greenbox Storage on my college campus. I was in the trenches, driving Uhaul trucks, moving boxes, packing storage units, etc.

Now, Iā€™m writing this newsletter from Medellin, Colombia, traveling the world while running my business 100% remotely.

The transition is possible. This is what you need to do.

Systemize your Business

This should be a priority for every business, remote or not. To be consistent, systems must be implemented in the following areas:

  • Recruiting

  • Training

  • Employee management

  • Project management

  • Product / service fulfillment

  • Marketing / sales

  • Customer service

Without systems in these areas, your business will be prone to inefficiencies. On top of that, things can get especially messy in a remote environment.

Hereā€™s an great method for systematizing many parts of your business:

Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

For the sake of the length of this newsletter, I wonā€™t get too deep into SOPs.

Essentially, an SOP provides step-by-step directions for how to carry out one task in your business.

If you want to see the SOP Creation Method I developed, click here.

Automate your Business

A great way to make sure your company is on-track while youā€™re at home or in another part of the world is layer automation into your operations.

Some automation examples:

  1. Order confirmation email

  2. Invoice generation / payment reminders

  3. Appointment scheduling

  4. Inventory management

Hereā€™s the best part about automationā€¦

After setting it up, there is zero human involvement. Nothing! You donā€™t lift a finger. This is key for creating an efficient remote company.

Digital Marketing

For the sake of the length of this newsletter, this will be the last example.

Digital marketing is an infinitely powerful tool for running a remote business (if you can use it effectively).

If you have a business that operates in a certain location (my company operates on college campuses for example), you can use hyper-specific geofencing to serve ads to your target customers.

You can also leverage:

  • Social media marketing

  • Email marketing

  • Paid ads

  • Etc.

There is a lot more that goes into running a remote business, so I will be writing more about this topic, because many readers have expressed interest.

In addition, Iā€™m putting together an offer for How to Run a Remote Business.
